'It's like they never miss a pass': Swansea's Galbraith continues battle with Manchester City.

Ethan Galbraith can't help but smile as he remembers the nail-biting final moments of Swansea's epic comeback win against Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup. The encounter culminated with Galbraith temporarily wearing a supporter's spectacles amid the on-field celebration.

As the match entered added time, Galbraith struck the post with a long-range effort from distance, and the defender promptly hammered in the deflection before racing off toward the East Stand to mark the goal, with the crowd mobbing the players.

Stunning Reversal

The result completed an unbelievable turnaround given Swansea had trailed 2-0 during the latter period. During the delirium, there was some collateral damage. The midfielder recalled, "There was a supporter trying to get our attention and Josh Key and I were wondering: 'What's he on about here?' Then we spotted the glasses. It was a light-hearted moment putting them on. We are on the pitch as footballers but we're people, too, so to have a laugh with the fans is always good."

Manchester City Challenge

The victory secured a fourth-round fixture at home against Pep Guardiola's side on Wednesday, a team Galbraith came close against at the same stage of the FA Cup with Leyton Orient in February. Galbraith had arguably the best view when his former team took the lead in remarkable manner, with Jamie Donley's long-range effort from about way out going in via the bar and the Stefan Ortega. It seems unfair that it was deemed an own goal.

"You would have wished they would've awarded it to him for attempting the shot from that far out," stated Galbraith, who played in the middle before switching to right defensive wing after they changed shape. That meant facing off against Jack Grealish, with whom he exchanged jerseys, and the player was among the City players who complimented the way the underdogs played positively.

City's Quality

"Fitness-wise they are very good but even the basics and routine actions, they can just do it over and over again," the midfielder notes. "It feels like they never miss a pass and they know how to control and take the sting out of a game. You can think you're doing well and then suddenly they will just thread a ball through a line without you even seeing. You have to be switched on at all times of the game. It requires a resilient mindset and concentration just to stay in the game."

Welsh Transition

The Welsh side were keen on Galbraith in January and secured his signature to secure him in the summer in a seven-figure transfer. He made a name as a popular figure across a couple of years at Leyton Orient and has quickly achieved similar status in his new home. At his previous team he linked up again with the coach, who earlier gave Galbraith his initial sustained opportunity in professional games on loan at a League One side from United. Then came a spell at League Two the Manchester club, before he departed Old Trafford.

Development Path

"I was probably a bit naive going into men's football. I think a lot of players would say development squad matches is entirely separate. Sometimes it feels like play is circulated without serious challenge. There's not many physical contests. Once you start playing first-team football you have to adapt rapidly."

Country Call-ups

His progress reflects that maturation for both domestically and internationally, shining for the Green and White Army, who remain in contention for the international competition next summer via the qualifying rounds and for whom he has started the last several matches, including both legs encounters against Germany. His former international manager, Galbraith's former international manager, gave him the ultimate compliment, saying he was Northern Ireland's "midfield general" given how he handles the football and his ability to spot a game-changing assist.

Starting Out

It has been an incredible journey for the kid from the neighborhood in the Belfast suburb, just outside the capital, who used to see his father, Stuart, also a central player, play for Ballyclare Comrades.

Manchester United Experience

Galbraith's sole appearance for the Red Devils came in Kazakhstan in 2019, a continental tournament trip to Astana, where they featured on an plastic turf and the arena covering was closed owing to temperatures of bitter cold. "It was a long trip and it was chilly," he says, smiling. "The week before, several youth players and I worked out jointly, so that helped us acclimatise. Just to join the main group and make an appearance at the end was incredible."

Moving On

How difficult was it to leave United, the club he joined from Linfield aged 16? "The decision proved quite easy, because I got to the stage where I understood I wasn't going to make it at the top level. I'm extremely thankful for the experience gained but it got to the point where I felt I needed to go my own route, join a smaller club and play first-team games. Now I'm steadily progressing again."

New Environment

It is the early part of the afternoon at the club's training ground but Galbraith has somewhere to be at the early evening: a driving theory test, another step towards getting on the road. Until recently to Sketty, the young professional was a constant rider in Swansea's so-called player transport, a team vehicle driven by academy staff, the transport team, which shuttles players to and from practice and games.

"I travel with the Portuguese player, Ronald, Malick Yalcouyé – a former passenger used to be in it but has started driving. It's pleasant to socialize with the guys but I'm aiming to be the subsequent individual out of the minibus and driving. The Portuguese player likes to pull a few pranks; he's frequently playing tricks."

Public Engagement

When he represented his former club, Galbraith would blend in with fans on London's Central line after beginning his trip at his base. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
